Single Accesspoint for ESG Data (SAFE)
The SAFE Initiative focuses on a unified community approach for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) data disclosure across the ASEAN region. It also seeks to address the current lack of a common platform for clear and consistent ESG data, which hinders informed decision-making for investors and the growth of sustainable finance in the region.
SAFE addresses data and disclosure challenges through a multi-faceted approach:
- Community-driven approach: SAFE emphasises a collaborative approach, involving stakeholders from various sectors to ensure the platform’s relevance and effectiveness.
- Standardised reporting: This Initiative aims to establish standardised reporting practices, making it easier to compare ESG performance across companies and facilitating informed investment decisions.
- Unified platform: SAFE supports the reporting needs of the region by providing a single access point for ESG data across ASEAN, enhancing transparency, accountability, and information flow.
- Capacity building and support: SAFE will provide resources and support, particularly for SMEs, to enhance their capacity for ESG reporting and disclosure.
SAFE Principles
- Inclusivity: SAFE aims to be accessible and beneficial for all stakeholders, including SMEs.
- Flexibility: The platform is designed to accommodate different member states’ and stakeholders’ needs.
- Open architecture: It welcomes participation and contributions from all stakeholders.
- Data sovereignty: Companies retain ownership and control over their disclosed data.
SAFE Community
The SAFE Community comprises regulators, financial institutions, corporate issuers, standard setters, exchanges, tech providers, and industry associations. Some of its key features include:
- Adaptability: The Community can adapt to the changing landscape of disclosure standards, frameworks, regulations, and technologies.
- Collective knowledge: It leverages the collective knowledge and expertise of diverse stakeholders to address challenges and find solutions.
